Whales!
I particpated in a mock injured whale response today with the Center for Coastal Studies in Provincetown and the International Wildlife Coalition. They went and found some whales and then called the position in to us at Sea Tow. We act as the first responders to mark the position and track an injured or tangled whale until the Center for Coastal Studies Whale Rescue Team can arrive. They're the only organization on the East coast permitted by the Federal government to approach the whales closely and treat them. We'll be operating under that permit as well.

Here you can see why a humpback whale is called that. Hump... dorsal fin.

There were some other boats looking at the whales

That's a finback cruising by Rescue 3. They are MUCH larger than the humpbacks; they can be up to eighty feet long around here.

I was greeted with this 600-700 pound tuna when I returned to the marina
Update: it weighed in at just over 900 lbs.

I've been on two whale watches in my life and I've yet to see a whale. The second time the captain was drunk and ignored a buoy and we grounded. The boat tipped over so far that I could reach and touch the water. Heh, we've got pictures of the police interrogating him.
