Bar hopping
I actually went bar hopping last night. It was great. Sean and I headed over to Central Square to check out a bar b we had never been to. But we needed food first so we stopped at The Good Life for a quick bite to eat. We were feeling the atmosphere there with live jazz so we moved to the bar when we finished eating. Eventually we dragged outselves out and headed across the street to the Enormous Room which was purported to be a loungey type place with good music. It was pretty cool. It needs better people, some promoting and more control over the music. The DJ was a little on the wild side. But it would make an excellent place for a private party. Leaving the Enormous Room, we wandered back across the street to see what was going on at the Phoenix Landing. I hadn't been there in ages and used to spend many nights a week there. Thursday at the Landing is Elements, a drum'n'bass night. We walked in a were assaulted about the head by the beats DJ Static was pushing from the turntables. It was an insane scene with people jumping all over the place. We stayed there until just before closing and then headed home. Excellent night!

Hello world
This is a gratuitous post for the sake of posting. Things have been humming along in Ethan land lately. The pace at work has been dropping off some with the end of the boating season looming yet with the bust of a Labor Day weekend (rain) the following weekend was an absolute madhouse out on the water in the Boston area. We were swamped (hee) with work.
I had planned on going on vacation with folks for our annual pilgrimage to Duck, NC. We moved the regularly August week over to September and things were setting up nicely for a great week down there. But unfortunately, since my work plans for the winter didn’t pan out as expected, I was lassoed into work for much of the week I had wanted to be on the beach in NC. I have no one to blame other than myself for not planning things better. So life goes on.
My new computer has been absolutely awesome. It’s been fun to relearn the Macintosh ways as well as seeing how far Apple has come with their OS and GUI design with this recent release of OS X (Jaguar). Simply amazing.
Safe sailing.

Back to the Mac
Once upon a time, in a land far, far away, I used Macintosh computers made by Apple. I knew some DOS (pops had an Osborne), but we went cutting edge and got a Mac 512e. To make a long story short, I eventually switched to PCs (with a lot of Unix mixed in). Well, I have now switched back to Macs with the intruduction of Apple's OS X which is just an amazing operating system. I now am in the process of consolidating all of my computing needs onto my new Mac PowerBook G4. It is SWEET!

Staying in Boston
I decided that the job I was looking at was not the best decision for me. There were quite a few things going for it such as good experience and good resume fodder, but there were too many nagging strikes against the position. They waffled when I negotiated the salary which turned me off. They had also demonstrated some unprofessional practices within the company. The clincher for me was the drastic change in lifestyle necessitated by taking on a job which offered virtually no time off. They admitted that it was a rough schedule but were not able to provide a solution. Now I almost feel like going back and offering myself as a consultant to suggest ways to make their crew's lives better. In any case, the whole interviewing process taught me quite a bit about this industry and I'm excited to move along. I'll probably stay at my current job in Boston for the winter and see how some other plans come along.
